Nasty Nas Is The Illest (Part 1)

The best that ever did it in my opinion. He hasn't had the consistency of Jay but when he's on there simply is no equal. Expect me to post of a lot of this dude's music, I have an extensive catalogue, probably only second to my man Chris who is the like the fucking Nas version of the chick from Misery minus the psychotic behavior. Who knows though, if dude ever crashed in his part of Queens. J/K. Enjoy.

BTW the goal, at least at first, is to play shit 99% of people either never heard or completely forget about. I do plan on posting classic shit as this series (Nasty Nas Is The Illest) evolves.

I also hope to get back to regular posting this week as I've got a ton of shit I'd like to share.

One

Uno Dos feat 50 Cent, Mobb Deep, Busta Rhymes, Ty Nitty - Nas

Head Over Heels (Trackmasters Remix) feat Nas - Allure

Mama Loves Me (Jay Z & Nas vs. The Police) - DJ Anion

Most Valuable Poets (Gooch Remix) feat Nas & Jay Z - Big L

Let's end with a fucking classic.....

Just Another Day In The Projects (Off 91' Demo Tape) - Nas

Wasabi Lobby (Squid and Su Sa For 1)

Barbecued squid and octopus

Su Sa For 1 (5 pieces of assorted sushi, 9 pieces sashimi and crunchy, spicy salmon roll)

The BBQ squid was nothing special and at $27 the Su Sa for one seems to be a tad bit overpriced. They clearly note that the sushi and sashimi is assorted but it's no different than if you just order regular sushi or sashimi from here. The extra money goes into the roll which contains a shitload of avocado and salmon. One thing I will say about Wasabi Lobby is that their fish is unbelievably fresh and the slices are HUGE. I've been to a ton of top tier sushi spots and while I've had more obscure and more expensive fish, I'm not sure that I've ever had bigger cuts. Because of that it's worth it to return, or order from.

Going Hard In The Kitchen Part 2 (Pause)

I purposely leave the plate a little messy, because I want you all to know that I'm making this shit my damn self. Not picking it up from Le Cirque and popping it on a plate. I've really taken a great deal of interest in continuing my culinary education and making dishes that are healthy. I've been using lots of vegetables and been trying to chill out with butter, red meats and fried foods, both when dining out and in.

Without further ado: Clockwise from the top

Oven roasted soy Brussels sprouts (Brussels spouts, onions, soy sauce, balsamic vinegar, olive oil, sea salt, black pepper)

Potato crusted swordfish steak with wasabi crema (swordfish steak, thinly sliced roasted potato, seal salt, olive oil, black pepper, chives. wasabi, creme fraiche)

Peppadew salad (peppadew peppers, marinated mushrooms, baby mozzarella, Tabasco, olive oil, balsamic vinegar, basil)

KyoChon (Mixed Salad and Sal Sal Strips)

(mixed micro greens, cherry tomatoes, garlic soy dressing)

(chicken breast strips coated with rice puffs and panko bread crumbs)

Korean fried chicken is no motherfucking joke. I'm mean they're good at this shit, and KyoChon is the best in the city. All of their chicken is double fried in 100% trans fat free canola oil. It comes out really crispy, but incredibly light. If you order the wings they get brushed with either soy and garlic or hot and sweet sauce before served. While I really like the wings, I love the "Sal Sal strips" which are the least greasy chicken fingers that I've ever had in my entire life. I also lover their salads which come with an incredible honey mustard, garlic dressing. But with that said, you shouldn't be coming to Kyochon for their salads. It's all about the chicken. The sampler packs which comes with wings, strips and potato wedges is absolutely they way to go. Also, order a side of the pickled radish which works amazingly with Korean chicken. It cuts right through all of the fried coating with a beautiful sweet acidity that mellows out the hot and sweet sauce, which can be quite spicy.

Leaving All You Cats, Shitting Kittens.....

The Gentleman's Den (5 Grooming Products You Should Not Sleep On)

I like trying new shit. When I run out of a product I cop something new unless I'm in love with a particular formula. I also don't do my shopping at CVS or Duane Reade, without fail I hit up spots like MiN New York and Santa Maria Novella in Soho, C.O. Bigelow in the West Village and my personal favorite Pasteur Pharmacy on the Upper East Side. It doesn't look like much on the outside, but inside you'll find a treasure trove of Merkur razors, silver tipped badger brushes, handcrafted shave creams and soaps, high end colognes, talc powders, and general men's grooming products from around the world. The five products I'm featuring today were all picked up at Pasteur's.

Once you wear a really well made dress shirt tailored by the likes of Brioni or Turnbull & Asser, it's really hard to go back to wearing H&M or Zara mass produced clothing. Once you shave with a well made stainless steel safety razor, lather with a fine badger brush and use a well made English or Italian cream or soap, it is equally as hard to go back to a cartridge razor and "goo" in a can. I am Sicilian and have very coarse, curly dark hair. Shaving has always been a problem. Once I started adapting proper techniques what used to be a chore has really become a pleasure. I recommend these five products which I've recently picked up, with very high endorsement.

Truefitt & Hill Ultimate Comfort Pre-Shave Oil - Pre-shave oil is used to soften the beard before you shave, allowing the blade to glide over the face with ease. There are a lot of these types of oil on the market but many are of low quality and wind up just clogging up pores and the razor. Trufitt & Hill is an English company that makes exceptional shaving products and they've really hit it out of the park with their pre-shave oil. It has an amazing citrus scent and included ingredients are sunflower, avocado and meadow foam oils. It makes for a great way to start a shave.

Geo F Trumper's Coconut Oil Shaving Cream - Truefitt and Hill, Taylor's and Trumper's (known in the wet shaving community as "The Three T's") are the three most famous shaving houses in London. This is with good reason. I received a small sample of Trumper's coconut oil cream from MiN New York awhile back and knew right away that I had to pick up a full tube. The natural coconut oil makes for a close, comfortable shave and the aroma is extremely pleasant, especially during the warmer months. Definitely a top three shaving cream.

Proraso Aftershave Lotion - I really appreciate this product from Florence, Italy and as soon as I've rinsed my freshly shaved with cold water, Proraso's aftershave lotion is applied right after. It's a an extremely light splash that contains both menthol and and allantoin. This product can then be followed with Proraso's liquid cream aftershave to moisturize and protect your skin. Proraso products have been used in Italian barbershops for over 80 years and with very good reason. It's also a very fairly priced line, which is a nice added bonus.

Taylor's "Mr. Taylor's Luxury" Talcum Powder - It's starting to get hot out there and we all know there's nothing worse than being on those ungodly subway platforms in the middle of August, and have sweat stains start showing. Those are the type of moments that make start to doubt the existence of a benevolent God. Baby powder is great, but better is Taylor's "Mr. Taylor's Luxury" talcum powder which has a beautiful, clean and fresh scent. Apply sparingly to "trouble" areas and you're good to go.

Castle Forbes Lavender Post Shave Balm - Castle Forbes shaving creams spawned in 1815 in Scotland as a reaction to complaints of Lord Forbes about his sensitive skin. Since then they have spawned a line of grooming products that rank right up there with the best in the world. I picked up the travel size of their lavender post shave balm, because the full sized bottle costs around $5o and I wanted to make sure that I liked the product before I dole out the kind of cash. This is a great after shave balm. It contains witch hazel, which is sort of like aspirin for the face. Additionally, all of Castle Forbes "scented" products rely on natural oils instead of chemicals for their fragrance.
